Available Programs

Heat Pump Rebate Programs in Ontario

There are several programs Ontario homeowners can use to offset the cost of a heat pump installation, including rebates, low-interest financing, and lease-to-own options.

Home Renovation Savings Program

Stackable
Enbridge Gas + Save On Energy (Ontario Government)

Ontario's main heat pump rebate program. The amount depends on your current primary heating source: $500/ton up to $2,000 for natural-gas-heated homes (Enbridge Gas customers), or $1,250/ton up to $7,500 for electric/oil/propane/wood-heated homes. Ground-source (geothermal) systems qualify for higher caps: $3,000 flat for gas homes, $2,000/ton up to $12,000 for non-gas homes. Active through November 2026. No EnerGuide audit required when installed as a single upgrade.

Up to $7,500

BetterHomesTO HELP Loan

Stackable
City of Toronto

Toronto's Home Energy Loan Program (HELP) — a low-interest loan for energy-efficient home improvements, including heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, ductless mini-splits, insulation, and rooftop solar. Repayment is tied to your property tax bill over up to 15 years (20 years for projects that include rooftop solar). Toronto homeowners only.

Up to $125,000 (low-interest)

Enbridge Sustain Lease-to-Own

Stackable
Enbridge Gas

Lease-to-own a new heat pump (or any HVAC equipment) with zero upfront cost. Predictable monthly payments cover installation, annual maintenance, all repairs, and warranty. You own the equipment outright at the end of the 15-year term. Available across Enbridge's Ontario service area. Stacks with the Home Renovation Savings rebate.

$0 down + maintenance included

OHPA — Oil to Heat Pump Affordability

Stackable
Government of Canada

Federal program for homeowners switching from oil heating to a qualifying heat pump system. Stacks on top of the provincial Home Renovation Savings rebate, often covering most or all of the install cost on oil-heated homes.

Up to $15,000

What Types of Heat Pumps Qualify?

Not all heat pump systems qualify for the same rebate amounts. Under the Home Renovation Savings program, rebates are calculated per ton of capacity. Ground source systems qualify for the highest amounts.

Cold-Climate ASHP (gas-heated home)

Enbridge Gas customers receive $500 per ton. A 4-ton install gets the full $2,000. Cold-climate units must be rated for sub-zero operation. Most common choice in the GTA.

Up to $2,000
Combined rebates

Cold-Climate ASHP (electric/oil/propane/wood home)

Non-gas homes receive $1,250 per ton — over 2× the gas-tier rate. A 4-ton install hits the $7,500 max. Oil-heated homes can stack federal OHPA on top.

Up to $7,500
Combined rebates

Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump

Qualifies under the same per-ton rebate structure as central heat pumps. Eligibility tier depends on your current primary heating source. Ideal for homes without ductwork or for zoned heating/cooling.

Same as ASHP tier
Combined rebates

Ground-Source (Geothermal) Heat Pump

The highest rebate tier. Gas homes: $3,000 flat. Non-gas homes: $2,000/ton up to $12,000. Best for new builds, major renovations, or homes with available outdoor space for the loop field.

Up to $12,000

Common Questions

Heat Pump Rebate FAQs

How much can I save with heat pump rebates in Ontario?
Through the Home Renovation Savings program, the rebate amount depends on your current primary heating source. Gas-heated homes (Enbridge Gas customers) receive $500 per ton, up to $2,000. Electric, oil, propane, or wood-heated homes receive $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500. Ground-source (geothermal) systems qualify for higher amounts ($3,000 flat for gas homes, or up to $12,000 for non-gas homes). Toronto homeowners can also access a low-interest BetterHomesTO HELP loan up to $125,000, repaid over up to 15 years through property tax. Oil-heated homes can stack the federal OHPA program for up to $10,000 federally (with potential provincial top-up).
Do I need an EnerGuide audit for heat pump rebates?
No, not for the Home Renovation Savings heat pump rebate when the heat pump is installed as a single upgrade. An assessment is only required if you bundle the heat pump with insulation, windows, or air sealing under a different program path.
Can I get rebates for a ductless mini-split heat pump?
Yes. Ductless mini-split heat pumps qualify for the Home Renovation Savings rebate at the same per-ton rate as central air-source heat pumps. The exact amount depends on your current primary heating source (gas, electric, oil, propane, or wood) and the system's rated capacity.
How long does it take to receive my rebate?
Home Renovation Savings rebates are typically processed within 6-12 weeks of installation. We submit the paperwork on your behalf immediately after the job is complete and track the application until your cheque arrives.
Does Megacity HVAC handle all the rebate paperwork?
Yes. As a certified Enbridge Sustain Trusted Partner, we handle all Home Renovation Savings rebate paperwork on your behalf — it's automatic when you work with us. We also help Toronto homeowners apply for the BetterHomesTO HELP low-interest loan and walk you through Enbridge Sustain lease-to-own if upfront cost is a concern.
Are heat pump rebates available in 2026?
Yes. The Home Renovation Savings program is active and currently extended through November 2026. The Enbridge Sustain lease-to-own program is also actively running. Toronto's BetterHomesTO HELP loan program is open year-round. Funding for the rebate program is capped, so we recommend acting sooner rather than later.
