Trusted HVAC Service in Oshawa, Since 1999

Oshawa homeowners count on Megacity HVAC for affordable, professional heating and cooling service. From Taunton to Lakeview, Northwood to the university district — our certified technicians deliver quality HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance across all Oshawa communities. We bring 25+ years of GTA experience to every job. Oshawa offers some of the most affordable housing in the eastern GTA, attracting families and first-time buyers to both established neighbourhoods near the downtown core and newer developments in the north end. Many of these homes — whether vintage workers' cottages near Oshawa Centre or 1970s bungalows in Northwood — benefit from HVAC upgrades that improve comfort and dramatically reduce energy bills.

Oshawa's housing reflects its blue-collar automotive heritage, with a core of 1920s–1950s workers' cottages and wartime bungalows near the downtown and GM plant area. These compact homes often have outdated ductwork, converted gravity furnaces, and minimal insulation — similar to East York but generally in smaller footprints. North Oshawa has seen significant new development with Windfields and Kedron subdivisions featuring modern homes, many of which have builder-installed systems that are reaching the 15-year replacement threshold. Oshawa's more affordable price point also means many homeowners are budget-conscious, making energy-efficient equipment with rebate savings particularly appealing.

Oshawa has a wider spread of housing ages than most of the eastern GTA. The centre, around King and Simcoe and through the O'Neill and McLaughlin neighbourhoods, holds early-1900s to 1950s houses, many with converted heating systems and ductwork that has been added to more than once. The 1960s through 1980s belt around Ritson, Thornton and Rossland is bungalows and back-splits. North of Taunton, Windfields and the newer subdivisions near Ontario Tech are 2000s builds where the original equipment is now reaching replacement age.

Oshawa sits at the eastern edge of the GTA where lake-effect weather patterns can produce heavier snowfall and colder temperatures than Toronto proper. Winter nights regularly dip below -20°C, and Oshawa's older homes with poor insulation and aging furnaces feel the cold acutely. A pre-winter furnace tune-up and inspection is especially important for Oshawa homeowners with equipment over 15 years old.

Diagnostics

Common HVAC Issues in Oshawa

Most are resolved same-day with parts we carry on our trucks.

Converted Systems in the Older Core

Central Oshawa houses were often heated by coal or oil first. What is there now is a conversion, and the oversized original trunk lines waste as much heat as they deliver.

Ductwork Extended One Room at a Time

Additions and finished attics were served by tapping the nearest run. The last register on a long branch delivers almost nothing on a cold morning.

Back-Split Temperature Spread

The 1960s and 1970s stock puts living space on three half-levels. One thermostat cannot hold all three within a few degrees of each other.

Windfields Builder Equipment Aging Out

The 2000s subdivisions north of Taunton are hitting the point where the original furnace and air conditioner both need replacing, usually close together.

Chimney-Vented Furnaces Left Orphaned

Replace an old furnace and leave the water heater venting into an oversized masonry chimney, and the flue no longer draws properly. It is a safety issue, not a preference.

Undersized Filters on High-Static Returns

A one-inch filter on a system that needs more open area starves the blower. It is cheap to fix and frequently the reason a furnace short-cycles.

HVAC FAQ — Oshawa

Yes, roughly fifty kilometres along the 401. Oshawa is inside our service area and we quote it like any other job. Being straight with you: for a middle-of-the-night no-heat emergency in January, a company based in Durham will reach you faster than we will. For installations, replacements and scheduled service, distance makes no practical difference.

Often, and usually without a new furnace. Houses that were converted from coal or oil kept ductwork sized for a very different system. Resizing the worst branches, sealing the trunk, and rebalancing gets most of the way there. We measure before recommending, because replacing equipment on a bad duct system just makes an expensive version of the same complaint.

Because the new furnace no longer vents into the chimney, the water heater is left alone in a flue that is now far too large for it. It cannot establish draft, so exhaust spills into the room. This needs a properly sized liner or a change of venting, and it is a safety item rather than something to leave until spring.

Generally yes. Those homes got both at the same time from the builder, so they age out together. The indoor coil sits in the furnace cabinet, meaning one job touches the other regardless. Doing both in a single visit means a matched system, one round of labour, and no second disruption a year later.
