Expert Air Conditioning Installation for Toronto Homes
Toronto's housing stock is the most diverse in Ontario. Century-old Victorians in the Annex and Cabbagetown, 1930s brick homes in High Park and Leaside, 1950s and 60s bungalows across Etobicoke and Scarborough, and newer infill and condo developments throughout the core. Each has different ductwork realities, insulation levels, and cooling challenges. A one-size-fits-all AC recommendation fails most homes.
We install central AC and ductless mini-split systems across all Toronto neighbourhoods. Central AC remains the best value for homes with existing ductwork. For older pre-1950 homes in Cabbagetown, the Annex, Parkdale, and Riverdale that lack ductwork, ductless mini-splits are the smarter investment, avoiding the $10,000+ cost of retrofitting ducts through plaster walls and narrow joist bays.
Toronto installs are dominated by what the house will physically allow. Pre-1950 houses in the Annex, Cabbagetown, Parkdale and Riverdale often have no ducts and no realistic route for them, which makes ductless the practical answer rather than the compromise. Leaside, High Park and the 1930s brick stock generally have ducts that can carry cooling with some balancing. Downtown semis and infill builds have tight side yards and clearance rules that decide where the condenser can physically sit. Condos are fan coil work and belong to the owner rather than the building.

We have a century house in the Annex with no ductwork. What is realistic?
Ductless, in almost every case. One outdoor unit can feed heads in several rooms, and modern units heat as well as they cool. Retrofitting ducts through plaster walls and shallow joist bays is expensive, disruptive and often physically awkward, and the finished result is usually worse than a well-placed ductless system.
What does AC installation cost in Toronto?
Central air is $3,500 to $5,500 depending on size, efficiency and duct modifications. Ductless starts around $3,000 for a single zone. Narrow semis and downtown properties sometimes need custom line-set routing, which adds to that, and we put the figure in the written estimate rather than discovering it later.
Where will the outdoor unit go on a narrow downtown lot?
That gets decided on the estimate visit, not on install day. Side yards on semis are tight, clearance from windows and property lines matters, and so does noise to the neighbour. Sometimes the answer is a rear yard pad or a wall bracket. We would rather sort it out before you commit than improvise around it.
Should I replace the furnace at the same time?
If it is close to the same age, it is worth pricing together, because the cooling coil sits in the furnace cabinet and one job opens the other. If your furnace is recent, there is no reason to replace it, and we will say so. The coil, the condenser and the blower do need to be matched to each other regardless.
Is there a rebate on a new air conditioner in Toronto?
In-house rebates available. Ask at your quote. We don't file government rebate paperwork for customers. Ontario's Home Renovation Savings Program does not cover a standalone air conditioner; it covers cold-climate heat pumps, which give you cooling plus heating in one system. Enbridge Sustain lease-to-own with $0 down is available separately.
