Trusted HVAC Service in Hamilton, Since 1999

Hamilton homeowners count on Megacity HVAC for professional heating and cooling service. From Dundas to Stoney Creek, Ancaster to the Hamilton Mountain — our certified technicians deliver quality HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance across all Hamilton communities. We bring 25+ years of GTA experience and a perfect customer satisfaction rating to every job. Hamilton's rich industrial heritage and diverse geography — from the historic lower city below the Escarpment to the suburban Mountain and the charming villages of Dundas and Ancaster — create a wide range of HVAC needs. Our team is experienced with century-old workers' homes in the North End, 1970s Mountain bungalows, and newer builds in Stoney Creek and Binbrook.

Hamilton has some of the GTA's oldest and most diverse housing stock. The lower city features blocks of 1890s–1940s workers' homes, many originally heated by coal or oil with converted systems and patchwork ductwork. The Hamilton Mountain was developed primarily in the 1960s–80s with bungalows, split-levels, and backsplits. Dundas and Ancaster offer a mix of heritage stone homes and modern executive properties. Stoney Creek and Binbrook have newer 2000s–2010s subdivisions with builder-grade systems. This mix means Hamilton HVAC work ranges from full system design for century homes to straightforward equipment swaps in newer builds.

Hamilton is really several housing markets at once, separated by the escarpment. The lower city, including the North End, Crown Point and the streets around Barton and Main, is largely 1890s to 1940s with narrow lots and heating systems that have been converted from coal or oil at some point. On the Mountain, the 1960s through 1980s bungalows, side-splits and back-splits above Fennell and Mohawk are on their second or third furnace. Dundas and Ancaster mix heritage stone with newer executive builds, and Stoney Creek and Binbrook are mostly 2000s subdivisions.

Hamilton's lower city sits in a natural bowl below the Niagara Escarpment, trapping summer heat and humidity — making reliable air conditioning a necessity rather than a luxury. Conversely, homes on the Mountain top face higher wind exposure and colder winter temperatures. The Escarpment also creates localized weather effects, with the Mountain sometimes receiving noticeably more snow than the lower city during winter storms.

Common HVAC Issues in Hamilton

Most are resolved same-day with parts we carry on our trucks.

Coal and Oil Conversions in the Lower City

Century houses off Barton and Main still run on ducts that were built for gravity heat. They are enormous, uninsulated, and lose a great deal of what the furnace produces.

Heat Trapped Below the Escarpment

The lower city sits in a bowl. Summer heat and humidity settle there and stay, which makes cooling capacity and dehumidification a genuine need rather than a comfort upgrade.

Colder, Windier Conditions on the Mountain

Above the brow the winter temperature runs lower and the wind is stronger. The same house plan needs more heating capacity up there than it does below.

Knob-and-Tube Era Electrical

Older lower-city houses sometimes still have original wiring in places. It constrains what can be added for thermostats, air cleaners and heat pump controls until it is dealt with.

Orphaned Water Heaters After a Furnace Swap

Replace a chimney-vented furnace and the water heater is left venting alone into a flue far too large for it. Draft fails and exhaust spills into the basement.

Stoney Creek and Binbrook Equipment Coming Due

The 2000s subdivisions east and south are reaching the age where the builder's furnace and air conditioner both need replacing within a season or two.

Common Questions

HVAC FAQ — Hamilton

Yes, and that is the point of saying it here. Scheduled work, installations, replacements and estimates are unaffected by the drive. Emergency response is affected. On a no-heat call in the middle of a February night, a Hamilton company will reach you well before we can, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than take the booking and leave you waiting.

Yes, and the ductwork is usually the bigger job. Gravity-era ducts are oversized, uninsulated and often unsealed, so a lot of heat never reaches the rooms. Sealing and resizing the worst runs alongside the furnace is what actually changes the comfort and the bill. We will quote the duct work separately so you can see what each part buys you.

Different sizing, mostly. Above the escarpment the winter design temperature is lower and the wind exposure is greater, so the same floor plan carries a higher heat loss. We run a load calculation on the actual house rather than applying a rule of thumb, which matters more here than in most of the GTA because the two halves of the city genuinely differ.

The water heater has most likely been orphaned. It used to share a chimney with the old furnace, and with the furnace now venting through plastic pipe outside, the flue is far too large for the water heater alone. It cannot establish draft and exhaust spills back into the room. That needs a correctly sized liner or a change of venting, and it is a safety item to deal with now, not later.
