HVAC FAQ — Whitby
Both. Brooklin is a little further north but it is the same trip for us. Whitby overall is around forty-five kilometres from our East York shop, so we book it as scheduled work with an arrival window. For overnight emergencies a Durham company will be quicker, and we would rather you know that up front.
Not usually the first answer. A single-zone system in a tall house sends most of its air to the easiest path, which is the main floor. Balancing dampers, checking return sizing on the upper level, and running the blower continuously on low fixes a good share of it. If it genuinely needs zoning after that, we will price zoning rather than a whole second system.
Usually yes, but the vent route and the condensate drain decide the job. Condensing furnaces vent through plastic pipe to an outside wall and produce water that has to drain somewhere with slope. In a stone-foundation basement with low headroom, that routing is the real work, and it belongs in the quote rather than as a surprise.
If the coil is old, yes. The condenser and evaporator are rated as a pair. A new condenser on a fifteen-year-old coil gives you neither the efficiency on the label nor the warranty you assumed you had. We check the coil's age and condition before quoting so the decision is yours with real information.
