Tankless Water Heaters
A tankless water heater heats water as it passes through the unit, so it does not run out and it is not burning gas overnight to keep a tank warm. It makes sense in homes where the hot water gives up during back-to-back showers, and in homes where a tank is taking up floor space you would rather use for something else. The trade-offs are real and we would rather you hear them now: most Toronto homes need a larger gas line and a dedicated vent run, and installed cost is $4,000 to $6,500 against $1,200 to $2,500 for a standard tank. Two people and one bathroom, a properly sized tank is usually the better buy. Five people and two bathrooms, tankless earns its keep.
