Is a 40-gallon Rheem Performance Plus big enough for my house?
For most 2 to 4 person Toronto households, a 40-gallon tank handles daily showers, laundry and dishes without running cold. If you have a larger family, multiple bathrooms running at once, or a big soaker tub, the same model is available in a 50-gallon size. We'll look at how many people are in the home and your fixture count before recommending a capacity.
How efficient is this water heater?
The Performance Plus is rated at roughly 0.61 to 0.62 EF (Canada) with a 40,000 BTU/h low-NOx burner. That's a standard-efficiency atmospheric gas tank, not a high-efficiency condensing or heat-pump unit. The self-cleaning sediment system helps it hold that efficiency over time by keeping buildup off the bottom of the tank. If cutting energy costs as much as possible is your top priority, ask us about a hybrid heat-pump water heater instead.
Does this water heater qualify for an Ontario rebate?
No. Current Ontario rebate programs apply to heat-pump equipment, including heat-pump water heaters, not to standard natural gas tanks like the Performance Plus. If a rebate matters to you, we can walk you through heat-pump water heater options, where the rebate is applied for through a program-registered contractor. For a straight gas tank, the value is in the lower up-front cost and the 9-year warranty.
What does the warranty cover and who handles service?
The Performance Plus comes with a 9-year tank and parts warranty, plus 1-year in-home labour in Canada.
