Will the RG2 give my family enough hot water?
The 50-gallon RG2 has an 81-gallon first-hour rating and recovers about 43 gallons per hour at a 90°F temperature rise. That comfortably handles a 2-to-4-person household — think a couple of morning showers plus a dishwasher or laundry. If your usage is heavier, we can look at the larger sizing options or talk through a tankless or heat-pump alternative.
Can my home use an atmospheric-vent tank like this?
The RG2 is a natural-draft, atmospheric-vent gas unit, so it needs to vent up an existing chimney or B-vent rather than out a sidewall. Most older Toronto homes set up for an atmospheric tank can take a direct replacement. If your venting has changed or you're moving the unit, we confirm the venting on-site before quoting so there are no surprises.
How efficient is the RG2, and does it qualify for a rebate?
The RG2 is rated at 0.63 UEF, which is typical for a standard atmospheric gas tank. It is not an ENERGY STAR or heat-pump product, so it does not qualify for the Ontario heat-pump rebates — those apply only to heat-pump and heat-pump water heater equipment, and are claimed through a program-registered contractor. If saving on energy and capturing a rebate is the priority, ask us about a heat-pump water heater instead.
What's the warranty, and what does the Defender Safety System actually do?
The RG2 comes with a 6-year tank and parts warranty, with a 10-year option available depending on the model. The Defender Safety System is Bradford White's flame-arrestor design that helps prevent the burner from igniting flammable vapours drifting along the floor — useful if the heater sits in a garage or near stored fuels and solvents. The Vitraglas lining protects the steel tank against rust and scale.
