Rebate by Heating Type

How Much You Get Depends on Your Current Heating

Electric/oil/propane/wood-heated homes get the higher rebate because the program prioritizes those fuel switches. Gas homes still get a meaningful rebate. Rates verified against the official Home Renovation Savings program.

Your Current HeatingAir-Source Heat Pump
Natural Gas (Enbridge)$500/ton, max $2,000
Electricity$1,250/ton, max $7,500
Oil$1,250/ton, max $7,500
Propane / Wood$1,250/ton, max $7,500

Rates verified against the official Home Renovation Savings program (homerenovationsavings.ca), April 2026. Oil-heated homes may also qualify for the federal OHPA program (up to $15,000) for an even larger combined rebate.

Common Questions

Heat Pump Rebate FAQs

How much is the Ontario heat pump rebate?
The amount depends on your current primary heating source. Gas-heated homes (Enbridge Gas customers) receive $500 per ton of heat pump capacity, up to $2,000 for a cold-climate air-source heat pump. Electric, oil, propane, or wood-heated homes receive $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500. Ground-source (geothermal) systems qualify for higher amounts: $3,000 flat for gas homes, or $2,000/ton up to $12,000 for non-gas homes.
Who is eligible for the rebate?
Ontario homeowners who own and primarily occupy a single-detached, semi-detached, row house, townhome, or mobile home on a permanent foundation. Gas-heated applicants must be active Enbridge Gas residential customers. Electric/oil/propane/wood-heated applicants must be connected to the Ontario electricity grid. New build homes occupied for six months or less do not qualify. We confirm eligibility during your free in-home estimate.
Does my furnace qualify for a rebate?
No. The previous Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program for furnaces ended. Only heat pumps qualify under the current Home Renovation Savings program. However, the Enbridge Sustain lease-to-own program is available for furnace upgrades with $0 down and maintenance included.
How long does the rebate take to receive?
Once we file the paperwork after install, the rebate cheque or e-transfer typically arrives in 6 to 12 weeks. We track the application and follow up if processing stalls. The rebate is paid directly to the homeowner.
Do I need an EnerGuide audit first?
No. The current Home Renovation Savings heat pump rebate does not require a pre or post-install EnerGuide audit when the heat pump is installed as a single upgrade. An assessment is only required if you bundle the heat pump with insulation, windows, or air sealing under a different program path.
Can I combine the rebate with other programs?
Yes. Toronto residents can use the BetterHomesTO HELP zero-interest loan (up to $125,000, repaid through property tax over up to 15 years) to fully cover the install — that stacks with the Home Renovation Savings rebate. Heat pump water heater rebates ($500) and smart thermostat rebates ($75–$100) are also available separately. Oil-heated homes may qualify for the federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program (OHPA) for an additional up to $15,000. The Federal Greener Homes Grant is no longer accepting new applications.
What heat pumps qualify?
Cold-climate air-source heat pumps listed on Natural Resources Canada's qualified products list. We install Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Daikin, and Mitsubishi cold-climate models that all qualify. Ground-source (geothermal) and water-source heat pumps have separate higher rebates we also help apply for. The system must be a complete install — outdoor unit paired with an indoor air handler, approved coil, or existing furnace.
How much does a heat pump cost after the rebate?
Toronto installations typically run $5,000 to $14,000 depending on system size and home complexity. After rebate, gas-heated homes pay around $3,000–$12,000 net. Electric/oil-heated homes pay less because the rebate is higher ($1,250/ton up to $7,500). Toronto residents using the BetterHomesTO HELP zero-interest loan can spread that net cost over up to 15 years with no interest.
