Quick answer: is tankless right for your home?
Tankless is a good fit when your gas line can support it, the exhaust can be vented safely, and the heater is sized for the most hot water you use at one time. It is a poor fit when a gas line upgrade would cost more than it saves, or when your home has no gas at all. In that case a heat pump water heater is worth a look.

Most tankless surprises show up on install day: a gas line that is too small, a vent path that does not work, a heater that is undersized. We look at these in your home first.
Gas supply
Meter capacity and gas line size. A tankless heater draws more gas at once than a tank heater, and this is the most common reason a quote changes.
Venting
Where the exhaust can safely go, and which vent material the model requires. We follow the manufacturer instructions and the gas code.
Water demand
How many fixtures run at once and how cold the incoming water gets in a Toronto winter. That sets the size of the unit.
Power and drain
An electrical outlet for the controls and fan, plus a condensate drain for condensing models.
A good fit when

- There is a safe vent path to the outside
- You want to free up the floor space a tank uses

Does a tankless water heater need a bigger gas line?
Often, yes. A tankless heater burns a lot of gas for a short time, so it can need more gas capacity than the tank heater it replaces. We check the gas supply before we quote, so a line upgrade is never a surprise on install day.
What is the difference between condensing and non-condensing tankless heaters?
Condensing models capture more heat from the exhaust, which lets them use different venting and requires a condensate drain. Non-condensing models vent differently. Which one suits your house depends on where the heater goes and how it can be vented, and we follow the manufacturer instructions and the gas code for both.
Will a tankless heater run out of hot water?
It does not run out the way a tank can, but it has a limit on how much water it can heat at once. If several showers and a dishwasher run together, a heater that is too small will fall short. Sizing the unit to your fixtures and your incoming water temperature is part of the estimate.
Does a tankless heater need maintenance?
Yes. Follow the manufacturer schedule, which typically includes flushing the unit to clear mineral buildup. Hard water makes that more important. Ask us about a maintenance visit when you book the install.
